The Central Coast of California is one of the premiere agricultural production areas of the world. Gross agricultural production in Monterey County alone is $4 billion. Pest insects are a major concern for all of the crops because they directly damage crops to reduce yields, contaminate the products, spread plant diseases and/or raise issues related to quarantines and interstate/international marketing. Bi’s research is focused on the management of insect pests of strawberries and vegetables.
